Macro sample 673

This sample comes from OP II, Unidad 1, Capa 7, D3, located at the northern edge of the site. It is a section of maize stalk recovered from a layer of construction fill used to level the base of new wing that was added onto an earlier platform. The maize was mixed in the fill with stalks of wild cane or caña brava (Gynerium sagittatum) and Tillandsia (Jonathan Haas 2013, Personal Communication to M. Blake, Ancient Maize Map). See Haas et al. (2013) for detailed description of recent work at the Caballete site.
