Seven maize starch grains were recovered from two edge ground cobbles (Artifact Nos 23 and 519) in Zone B, middle Block and 1S6E (Piperno et al. 2000:894, Table 1). These artifacts are very likely associated with this radiocarbon sample because of their stratigraphic position and their association with Monagrillo style ceramics--the earliest in Panama. The dated material was an associated sample of phytoliths collected from the surrounding sediments.
