Clearwater

Information

The Clearwater Site (AZ BB:13:6), is located in the Santa Cruz River Valley, in Tucson, AZ, USA. Several charred maize fragments were recovered from features associated with pit structures during salvage excavations at the site (Mabry 2008:59).

The Congress Street locus at the site had at least seven small circular pit structures, a large number of smaller pits, midden deposits and the remnants of at least one irrigation canal that were excavated in 2001 and 2002 (Thiel and Mabry 2006:1:10-14). The charred maize remains from this site represent some of the earliest known maize samples recovered so far in the US Southwest and Northern Mexico.
